Alexander Henderson (The Lady, Sacren) and Michael Coulombe (Soundbite, Stalk) are back with another short, Santa. This one is a seasonal treat about a young boy who ends up on Santa’s naughty list.
Tyler (Dylan Kento Curtis) is anxious for Christmas to arrive. But he doesn’t know Santa (James Salsman) has overheard his bedtime prayers and knows he hasn’t been 100% good this year. He falls asleep but his dreams are haunted by images of a not so jolly old soul killing his mom (Alli George) and Dad (Adam Cabrera). Or are they just dreams?
By now we know what to expect from one of Coulombe’s shorts. A fun buildup and then a sting at the end. It works again here but I’d really like to see him try something a bit different. Maybe a longer piece, Love Me Not was good at 10 minutes and with a more serious plot. Something along those lines might make a nice change of pace.
Henderson seems to be having fun with Santa. It’s certainly much lighter both in look and in content than his previous film. And since it wasn’t shot for a contest its free of product promotion. I’m going to have to take the time to watch a few more of his shorts.
Santa is a fun little holiday treat. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
