Michael Jai White, Jeff Fahey and Mickey Rourke Go Commando

Mickey Rourke seems to be entering the Bruce Willis phase of his career with the second announcement of a film today, first Warhunt and now The Commando. This time he’s costarring with Michael Jai White (Black Friday, Assault on VA-33), Jeff Fahey (The Lawnmower Man, Lost) and Brendan Fehr (Final Destination, Daughter of the Wolf). Also in the cast is veteran UFC fighter Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, hopefully, he puts on a better performance here than he did in his last few fights.

In this edge-of-your-seat crime thriller starring Michael Jai White and Mickey Rourke, an elite DEA agent (White) returns home after a failed mission when his family makes an unexpected discovery in their house – a stash of money worth $3 million. They soon face the danger and threat of a newly released criminal (Rourke) and his crew who will do whatever it takes to retrieve the money – including kidnap the agent’s daughters. Stakes are high and lives are at risk in this head-to-head battle as the agent stops at nothing to protect his family against the money-hungry criminals.

Here’s hoping that Rourke brings some commitment here to a role that’s more than just a glorified cameo. Because when he does, he oozes more on-screen charisma from his pinky than WIllis (whose oblivious absence in his eyes seriously worries me) from his entire appearance. Rourke looks like he’s visiting the same plastic surgeon as Kilmer though. I refuse to take that as an omen. I’m a fan.

The press release I got for this listed him last, even after over the hill UFC fighter Cerrone, which makes me think this is a cameo. But we’ll see when it comes out.
