Mickey Rourke Goes on a Warhunt

Warhunt sounds like a cross between Ghosts of War and Charles Band’s Zone Troopers. With a mix like that it could be some enjoyably cheesy viewing or a total trainwreck. Check out the description and trailer and see what you think.

A US military cargo plane loses control and violently crashes behind enemy lines in the middle of the German black forest. Immediately ruthless Major Johnson (Mickey Rourke, Angel Heart, Sin City) sends a squad of his bravest soldiers on a rescue mission to retrieve the top-secret material the plane was carrying. Led by Sergeant Brewer (Robert Knepper, Hard Target 2, The Retaliators) and Walsh (Jackson Rathbone, Twilight, The Last Airbender), the soldiers venture deep into the forest near the crash site.

They soon discover hanged Nazi soldiers and other dead bodies bearing ancient, magical symbols. Suddenly their compasses fail, their perceptions twist and straying from the group leads to profound horror as they are attacked by a powerful, supernatural force. Fighting for their sanity and struggling to survive they must uncover the shocking truth behind the force before the Nazis and do everything they can to remove all evidence it ever existed, even at the cost of their own lives.

I read about this when Mickey Rourke was first cast. I’m still skeptical but it looks passable at least, and clearly had a chunk of change thrown at the production. Definitely gonna review it when it comes out. Also i found it kinda funny that production was wrapping as Covid hit the scene so Rourke was stuck in Latvia for like two weeks or something.

I’m hoping it’ll be a good Saturday night kind of film, I can’t imagine it’ll be much more than that.

Trailer leaves me with an Overlord kind of feeling. Which is totally fine by me, in a Saturday night popcorn and beer with the wife kind of way 🙂

Back when I was growing up DC used to put out a comic called “Weird War Tales” and this sounds like something that would have turned up in it.
