Justice League x RWBY Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two Poster

Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two (2023) Review

Opening with a quick recap of Part One, Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two brings the members of The Justice League back to Earth only to find Kilg%re (Tru Valentino, The Rookie, Fast & Furious Spy Racers) and the Grimm are already here and attacking Gotham City. As Flash (David Dastmalchian, Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham, Late Night with the Devil) and Black Canary (Jamie Chung, Lovecraft Country, Dexter: New Blood) try to find a way to contact Remnant and Team RWBY the others fight the creatures.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long before Batman (Troy Baker, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, Justice League: Warworld) is taken down by the venom from a giant scorpion, forcing them to let Kilg%re escape again.

Justice League x RWBY_ Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two C

Once Team RWBY is brought to Earth Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two flips the script from the original as Ruby (Lindsay Jones, Red vs. Blue, Camp Camp: Arrival of the Torso Takers), Weiss (Kara Eberle, Lazer Team, RWBY Chibi), Blake (Arryn Zech, Loren & Rose, The Detective Is Already Dead) and Yang (Barbara Dunkelman, RWBY: Ice Queendom, Nomad of Nowhere) have to adapt to changes to their forms and powers.

They’re not the only ones adapting, however. Whoever Kilg%re is working with has the power to make the Grimm evolve to match the powers of the various superheroes fighting them, one even developing a heart of kryptonite to attack Superman.

Co-directors Yssa Badiola (Recorded by Arizal, Monster Under My Bed) and Dustin Matthews (RWBY, RWBY: Volume 7) and writer Meghan Fitzmartin who returns from Part One have a slightly easier time of it here. Free from the need to introduce a new world and characters they can concentrate on giving viewers plenty of action. And they do just that as hordes of Grimm of all shapes and sizes attack.

Justice League x RWBY_ Super Heroes & Huntsmen, Part Two D

Among the highlights is the fight on the bridge against something that looks, and breathes fire, like a Chinese snake dragon only with a heart made of kryptonite. Everyone gets into the act against this creature and I was afraid the film may have peaked too early. But the final battle against seemingly endless waves of various Grimm manages to do just that. While his partner, whose identity I won’t give away, Kilg%re creates yet more chaos as he hops from body to body possessing heroes and heroines.

When the pace does occasionally slow down there’s a bit of drama to fill the time. The two sets of superheroes find they share a lot of the same traumas. Loss of parents, loss of homeworlds, issues relating to others, etc. It’s not overly heavy but it does add a bit of depth to the story and I found the developing relationship between Superman and Ruby, “We’ve got to stop saying goodbye”, a nice touch.

Justice League x RWBY Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two A

I actually liked Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two even more than Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One. Without the need for as many introductions and explanations the plot flows a lot better and there’s time for more of the things we watch superhero films for. At the same time it’s not just seventy-five minutes of empty headed meatsacks beating the crap out of each other either.

The only real complaint I have is that some of the voice actors changed between the two installments and that’s a bit of a distraction. If you haven’t seen the first film, the recap should tell you enough that you can follow the plot of Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two and avoid that problem. But you really should see them both, its worth the annoyance to double your fun.

Warner Bros. has currently made Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part Two available to buy as a digital download. It will be available on Blu-ray and 4K on October 31st.
