Jean-Claude Van Damme Casts Light On the “Darkness of Man”

Saban Films is looking to do a bit of Van Dammage, and who better to do it than JCVD in his first action film since The Last Mercenary in 2021. While he doesn’t crank out the DTV films the way some of his 80s contemporaries do, he can still deliver the goods when he does. This time out, he plays a former INTERPOL agent who’s keeping a protective eye on the son of an informant who was killed in a raid gone wrong. When the boy is kidnapped by the Russian mob, he goes back into action.

Darkness of Man’s cast also includes Kristanna Loken and Shannen Doherty, and it was directed by James Cullen Bressack. While he may still be better known for his work in the horror genre, he also directed a couple of Bruce Willis’ better late career films. It also sports an “R” rating for: “Strong violence, language throughout, drug content and some sexual references.” which certainly makes it sound like it’s not another talky thriller passing itself off as an action film. We’ll find out May 21st when Darkness of Man arrives on Digital.

Russell Hatch (Jean Claude Van Damme) is a washed up, former Interpol operative who vowed to protect the son of an informant killed years earlier in a raid gone wrong. When merciless street gangs start an all-out turf war and the kid is caught in the middle, Hatch will stop at nothing to keep him safe and fight anyone who gets in his way.
